I was recently listening to episode 111 of the Super Retro podcast, where they showcased a fresh collection of vintage hats from Instagram curator @CastroVintage916–definitely worth checking out if you’re looking to add to your own collection. As an avid daily hat wearer, the episode immediately hooked me. Nineties headwear was defined by bold, gaudy, and unapologetically colorful designs. To celebrate that iconic era, I’ve rounded up five of my personal favorite retro hats that perfectly capture that 90s aesthetic.
1. Charlotte Hornets “The Game” Hat
Charlotte Hornets gear was peak 90s color combo. You couldn’t walk into a mall or a middle school hallway without seeing that bold teal and purple popping off a snapback.

2. Miami Dolphins Starter “Shockwave” Hat
Imagine walking into 6th grade with this hat and the matching Starter jacket. Too cool for school!

3. The Game College Hats
They covered every college and it was a staple for high school kids in the 90s. Did you have the guts to be edgy enough for the Cocks or Beavers hats?

4. Jeff Burton NASCAR Splash Hat
Maybe they weren’t as popular, but NASCAR had some sweet hats in the 90s. Look at that hot pink!

5. Dallas Cowboys “Collision” Hat
It wouldn’t be the 90s without a little Cowboys representation. Pure 90s football dominance packed into one cap.
